Zeta Cinema (Three Meters above the Sky) Mod Producciones (Biutiful, Agora), Antena 3 Films (FIN, Julia’s Eyes) and  Kowalski Films (Me too) join their talents to bring the screen in real image, the popular Spanish comic ZIP & ZAP created by Escobar. ZIP & ZAP are two of Spain’s most beloved comic book characters. First published in 1946, their stories have entertained several generations of children, selling millions of copies over almost 7 decades. ZIP & ZAP AND THE MARBLE GANG updates the essence of these universal characters and takes the best from the children’s adventure tradition, some spectacular settings and the latest state of the art FX and melds them into a high quality event movie, capable of attracting a universal family audience to what will be a must-see in theaters.

Directed by Oskar Santos (For the Good of Others) and written by Jorge Lara and Francisco Roncal, ZIPI And ZAPE AND THE MARBLE GANG begin shooting in early July with the participation of Antena 3 Television, La Sexta and Canal + and the support of the ICAA, ICIC and ICO.

Naughty twins Zip & Zap are sent to a strict summer school where all entertainment is forbidden.  Their mischief gets out of hand when they form the Marble Gang, the children’s Resistance, to defy the evil Headmaster.  The children wind up uncovering a mysterious secret hidden deep within the school leading to the most wonderful adventure of their lives.

The Companies

Buena Vista Internacional

Buena Vista International is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, the leading company in the world of family entertainment and media that has five main business areas: media, parks and resorts, film production and distribution, interactive media and products consumption. Under the label of Buena Vista International, the company has distributed titles in Spain as “Chico and Rita,” nominated for an Oscar in the animation category in 2011 – “The Other Side of the Bed” by Emilio Martínez Lázaro or “Kika Superbruja and the trip to Mandolán “.

ZETA CINEMA was formed with the aim of becoming a leading company in Spanish film production. As part of the audiovisual arm of Grupo Zeta, it counts on the support of its publishing companies and of the communication group’s wide range of industrial resources.

As a production company, it maintains a balance between high-quality film and commercial guarantees. Its development and in-house production area guide their investments earmarked for audiovisual projects with guarantees of success, participating in every essential stage of the project’s management, from concept to exhibition. After the group’s extensive experience within film distribution, Mortadelo and Filemon (2008) was the first film produced by Zeta Cinema, and was highly successful at the box office.

After that came Three Steps Above Heaven, the title that, with 10 million euros in box office and 1.4 million spectators, became Spain’s highest grossing film in 2010.

An adaptation of the bestselling novel by Moccia and starring Mario Casas and María Valverde, Zeta Cinema is now producing its sequel I Want You (2012). Zeta Cinema also recently produced The Opposite of Love, starring Hugo Silva and Adriana Ugarte, a romcom that garnered both box office and critical success. Amongst the projects for the upcoming year, the production company is developing Zip & Zap and the Marble Gang, based on characters created by Escobar, and is producing the most ambitious animated movie in Spanish film, a super-production based on Ibañez’s characters that will be directed by Javier Fesser: Mortadelo and Filemon versus Jimmy El Cachondo.

Under this stamp of quality and box office tie-in, he produced Alejandro Amenábar’s second English-language film, Agora, which was selected at Cannes and became 2009’s highest-grossing film with 21 million euros at the Spanish box office and almost 3 and a half million spectators. Antena 3 Films has laid its bets on Spanish and international films throughout its career. Founded in 2000 (then under the name Ensueño Films) as the film production house of the Antena 3 group, our aim has been to promote and foster the growth of the film industry by using the full extent of the broadcaster’s potential as a communications channel.

Since then, Antena 3 Films has produced a large number of titles, work that has been rewarded with both audience and critical acclaim alike, and is reflected at the box office as well as in its numerous awards.

Standouts among its many titles are some of the biggest box office hits of recent years: Torrente IV, Three Steps Above Heaven, Julia’s Eyes, To Hell with the Ugly, Lope and Brain Drain 2. Rodrigo Cortes’s Red Lights, Nacho Vigalondo’s Extraterrestrial Fernando González Molina’s I Want You, Jorge Torregrossa’s Fin and Oriol Paulo’s The Body are their upcoming 2012 releases.

Kowalski Films is a production company that was founded in 2010 to give shape to works undertaken by independent producer Koldo Zuazua. Under this banner, he has produced two of the most important short Spanish films in recent years: León Siminiani’s The Prize, nominated for a Goya in short film, and Martín Rosete’s VoiceOver, selected by the Tribeca Film Festival.

Koldo Zuazua began his career producing short films. With 25 under his belt to date, some are the most representative of the last decade, directed by filmmakers that make up the new landscape in Spanish film: Paco Plaza, Ramón Salazar, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Borja Cobeaga and Luis Berdejo, among others. He has also taken on the executive production of such titles as Me Too by Alvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, and Julio Medem’s The Basque Ball: Skin Against Stone
